True Life, I’m Snowed in on Campus: Snowpacalypse 2010
Over the past week the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast region was hit with a barrage of snowstorms culminating in over 40 inches of snow! Read Checktheweather.net contributor, Reginald Larkin’s take on being snowed in on a college campus and why he believes now more than ever that Climate Change is real:
Snowed in, Climate Change Anyone?
Lying in bed I can’t help but stand in awe of a blizzard outside my window. The weather conditions are so intense it reminds me of my home in Ohio. Ice and snow fills the doorways making it nearly impossible to go outdoors. Cars are buried in mountains of snow. The city of Baltimore has issued a phase 3 emergency, meaning that the only cars allowed on the road are those of the state of Maryland. Students are running to the cafeteria and supplies at the campus store are running low. The scene that I am describing is not that of that of a movie but state of the city of Baltimore. My past few winters at Morgan State University have been mild at best however, the weather recently became more than the region could handle. There have been reports that cities have ran out of rock salt and the government has closed all offices. The polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate and the weather patterns are only intensifying. Copenhagen [United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Copenhagen in December of 2009] solved very little and that leaves me concerned. The unstable weather patterns that have afflicted the Earth as of late are beginning to get ridiculous. Witnessing firsthand the wacky weather patterns it is becoming obvious that global warming is real and affecting us right now. This is not normal weather for Maryland, in fact this this is what I would expect in NYC not the DMV. Just some early morning thoughts I wanted to share….
