Principles of Environmental Justice
On October 24-27, 1991 the first People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit was held in Washington, DC. The event brought together environmental and social justice advocates, scholars, and lawmakers to develop a shared agenda for redefining the environmental conversation. Seventeen Principles of Environmental Justice were ratified and continue to guide the work of environmental and community advocates and organizations.
